Travelling peacefully Anyone who often travels by train in most likely no stranger to hearing others' loud phone calls or the sounds of energetic kids. But for those who hope for a more p(1)eacefuleaceful trip,a solution may be on the way.
Starting on Dec.23,the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway will o(2)fferffer a quiet carriage trial (试验) service to create a quieter and more c(3)omfortableomfortable environment for people, according to China State Railway Group.
In the quiet carriage, people won't be a(4)llowedllowed to put their phones, laptops or iPads on speaker (免提).Instead, they have to switch their phones to vibrate (震动) or silent mode and make phone calls in the hallway.
People who are willing to f(5)ollowollow the rules will be able to choose the quiet carriages while buying train tickets on 12306.jye.ai — the official train ticket booking system.
Many are looking forward to this choice. "With the quiet carriage as an option,I can enjoy some peaceful time on the train with people who h(6)aveave the same idea," Yin Jin,a regular high-speed rail people in Beijing, told China Daily.
H(7)oweverowever,some think that this could send a different message.Yang Hongshan,a professor at public government at Renmin University of China, said that silent carriages might give people the impression that they don't n(8)eedeed to be quiet in non-silent carriages.
"Keeping quiet in p(9)ublicublic places should be a social common understanding," he told China Daily. "People in whatever carriages have the right to enjoy some quietness. The services might turn this social norm (规范) into one special right."
Instead of offering the quiet carriage service,Yang suggested that the company should step up efforts to guide people to r(10)emainemain quiet during train trips in normal carriages.
