We both have small lawns. One day， Bill asked me if he could borrow my lawnmower（割草机）as his was being repaired. I agreed. I did not pay much attention at that time but noticed a few days later that his lawn was still not cut. Indeed， it looked as bad as I had ever seen it，so I enquired what was happening. He lowered his head， seeming to avoid eye contact with me. I was told that my mower was broken when he received it I argued that it was not true and demanded him to get it repaired immediately. After this argument we did not speak at all. His garden continued to match mine for beauty and both thought our garden would be the winner in the competition. One day，I saw an ambulance at his door. My other neighbours told that Bill had been taken into hospital and was seriously ill， and would probably be in hospital for some considerable time.
I knew that Bill's wife Grace would not be able to cope with the garden as she had to take care of the family， and because of the argument， I gave up the idea to help. As usual， I continued to tend to my garden.
