I teach at a middle school where we really focus on kindness and service being our over-riding (高于一切的) culture.I think middle schoolers can get a bad name because it is such a changeful age. They are still between being children and growing up,and it is so difficult to guide them.
But this week I was reminded again of how special middle school kids are.Two boys showed me that coming forward when we need help is so important, and coming forward to admit a wrong is of great importance. They both showed courage, pity and kindness in a way I would not have expected.
I follow many of my students on Instagram so I can keep up with their lives away from school as well as look for any cyber bullying (网络欺凌).On Monday evening,I received a direct message from a boy who had found a very mean message in his locker (可锁存物柜).He took a picture of it and sent it to me asking for help.I promised him that this is not what we are all about at our school and asked him to meet me at break time the following morning. He said he would, and we left off with him feeling as if he had been heard and me feeling honored that he came to me.
A few hours later I noticed on his Instagram that he had posted the picture of the mean note and asked if anyone knew who the person was.I made sure to air my opinion that we were looking into it to give the person who did it a little push in coming forward.I thought it was very smart of the boy who had received the note to reach out through the Internet because this is where the kids live for so many hours of the day.

【答案】Well, the next day when break time came, the boy came to me and another boy was with him.The boy who had received the note showed me another note he had received. But this was a beautiful heartfelt "say sorry" note.I asked him if he knew who had done it,and the boy who came with him replied, "It was me who did it and I know it was wrong. So I wrote him this note.I just wanted to do something to try to make up for my meanness." My heart felt completely full of pride and love for this brave boy.I told him that it was courageous of him to admit his mistake and do something kind in return.
I turned to the boy who received both notes.I asked him if he also appreciated the courage and could pardon him for doing so.Without thinking,he said, "Of course. And if anyone tries to be mean to him for making a bad choice,I will stand up to him. From my point of view, anyone can make mistakes. As long as one realizes and corrects his mistakes,it'll be nice."

My dream was athletics.By the time I was sixteen,I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything moving on the football field. And I was so lucky that my high-school coach was Ollie Jarvis, who not only believed in me,but often told me "Dream is priceless".However, when I was about to get off the ground, one particular incident happened, which almost ruined my long-held dream.
It was the summer holiday in senior two and a friend recommended me for a summer job.I was offered ﹩12.25 per hour.Compared with the average ﹩3.5,that was a big sum.I was so excited, because this meant a chance for money in my pocket, certainly money for a new bike and new clothes, and the start of savings for a house for my mojye.air.The prospect(前景)of the job was inviting, and I wanted to jump at the opportunity.
Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball training to handle the work schedule.I didn't dare to tell my coach,I thought of the advice my mother often gave me when I lacked courage, "If you make your bed,you have to lie in it. 2.Jenny was the only child in her home. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily.
She couldn't help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother.Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat,but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her.She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, "Hey,girl, you want to have the noodles?
"Oh,yes…,but I don't have money on me…" she replied.
"That's nothing.I'll treat you today," said the man. "Come in."
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive.
As she was eating,Jenny cried silently.
"What is it?" asked the man kindly.
"Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!" said Jenny as she wiped her tears. "Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother, drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me.She is so merciless compared to a stranger!!"
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, "Girl,do you really think so?I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot.But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you?Have you expressed your gratitude to her?"
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock?she remembered Mother's familiar face and weathered hands. "Why did I not think of that?A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me."
On the way home,Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.

3. One day, when I was a first-year student in high school,I saw a kid from my class walking home from school. His name was Kris.It looked like he was carrying all of his books.I thought to myself,"Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd(书呆子)."
I had quite a weekend planned(parties and a football game with my friends),so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.As I was walking,I saw a gang of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him.He looked up,and I saw terrible sadness in his eyes.
My heart went out to him.So I jogged over to him,and as he crawled around looking for his glasses,I saw tears in his eyes.As I handed him his glasses,I said,"They are bad guys! They really should be punished."He looked at me and said,"Hey,thanks!"There was a big smile on his face.It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.
I helped him pick up his books and asked him where he lived. As it turned out,he lived near me,so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to a private school before.I would have never hung out with a private school kid before, but we talked all the way home, and I carried his books.
