Prissy Baker was in Oscar Miller's store New Year's morning when her uncle,Richard Baker,a bachelor, came in.He did not look at Prissy, nor did she wish him a happy New Year.Uncle Richard had not been on speaking terms with her or her father for eight years. When she had been a little girl they had been great friends;but that was before the quarrel.
When Prissy had been nine years old,Richard and Irving Baker had quarreled over the division of a piece of property. The fault had been mainly on Richard's side, and that very fact made him all the more stubborn. He had never spoken to his brother since, and he declared he never would.Prissy and her father felt very badly over it,but Uncle Richard seemed to have completely forgotten them.
Richard told Mr.Miller that he was on business but that he didn't like it."Well,I always like a good dinner on New Year's," said Richard. "It's about the only way I can celebrate.I got everything ready last night, but I won't get back before one o'clock,so I think I'll have to put up with a cold bite."
After Richard had driven away,Prissy walked thoughtfully home. She had planned to spend a holiday with a new book. She did not even mean to cook dinner, for her father had had to go to the town that morning and would be gone the whole day. There was nobody else to cook dinner for.Prissy's mother had died long ago.
Suddenly an idea popped into Prissy's head.Dared she?Oh,she never could! But he would never know. There would be plenty of time!
Prissy had no trouble breaking into Uncle Richard's house, for the woodshed door was unfastened. She tripped into the kitchen with rosy cheeks and mischief sparkling in her eyes.In a short time, the kitchen was full of appetizing odors. As the clock struck twelve,Prissy had the table set.
Prissy was about to slip away when the door was pushed open.

【答案】Prissy was about to slip away when the door was pushed open.It was his uncle Richard who opened the door!He was surprised to see that Prissy was in his house. "Why are you here, little Prissy?" "I am here to cook for you,Uncle Richard.Because I heard in Oscar Miller's store that you have no time to cook." "Oh!" Uncle Richard replied with a lump in his throat. With Prissy's company,he went to the dining room, where he smelt the appetizing odors created by Prissy immediately. Then, they had a perfect dinner together.
When the meal was over,he talked to Prissy kindly and politely.Uncle Richard was overjoyed and said, "How time flies!Eight years have passed.I've been meaning to apologize, but I'm afraid my brother won't accept it." Hearing his explanation,Prissey knew she had done the right thing. She invited Uncle David to come to her home the next day when her father would be at home, saying that love can eliminate all hatred.Prissy's father was extremely happy to reunite with his brother. So,with love, all would turn out all right.

1.Jenny was the only child in her home. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily.
She couldn't help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother.Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat,but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her.She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, "Hey,girl, you want to have the noodles?
"Oh,yes…,but I don't have money on me…" she replied.
"That's nothing.I'll treat you today," said the man. "Come in."
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive.
As she was eating,Jenny cried silently.
"What is it?" asked the man kindly.
"Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!" said Jenny as she wiped her tears. "Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother, drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me.She is so merciless compared to a stranger!!"
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, "Girl,do you really think so?I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot.But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you?Have you expressed your gratitude to her?"
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock?she remembered Mother's familiar face and weathered hands. "Why did I not think of that?A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me."
On the way home,Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.

I grew up in a poor family with six brothers, three sisters,my father and mother. We had little money and few goods, but plenty of love and attention.I was happy and energetic.I understood that no matter how poor a person was,he could still afford a dream.
My dream was athletics.By the time I was sixteen,I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything moving on the football field. And I was so lucky that my high-school coach was Ollie Jarvis, who not only believed in me,but often told me "Dream is priceless".However, when I was about to get off the ground, one particular incident happened, which almost ruined my long-held dream.
It was the summer holiday in senior two and a friend recommended me for a summer job.I was offered ﹩12.25 per hour.Compared with the average ﹩3.5,that was a big sum.I was so excited, because this meant a chance for money in my pocket, certainly money for a new bike and new clothes, and the start of savings for a house for my mojye.air.The prospect(前景)of the job was inviting, and I wanted to jump at the opportunity.
Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball training to handle the work schedule.I didn't dare to tell my coach,I thought of the advice my mother often gave me when I lacked courage, "If you make your bed,you have to lie in it. "I decided to talk to my coach in person. After all,my dream of buying my mom a house and having money in my pocket was worth facing his disappointment to me.

3. One day, when I was a first-year student in high school,I saw a kid from my class walking home from school. His name was Kris.It looked like he was carrying all of his books.I thought to myself,"Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd(书呆子)."
I had quite a weekend planned(parties and a football game with my friends),so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.As I was walking,I saw a gang of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him.He looked up,and I saw terrible sadness in his eyes.
My heart went out to him.So I jogged over to him,and as he crawled around looking for his glasses,I saw tears in his eyes.As I handed him his glasses,I said,"They are bad guys! They really should be punished."He looked at me and said,"Hey,thanks!"There was a big smile on his face.It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.
I helped him pick up his books and asked him where he lived. As it turned out,he lived near me,so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to a private school before.I would have never hung out with a private school kid before, but we talked all the way home, and I carried his books.
