Late in December,a heavy storm hit the town, and the worst blow fell on a little church- a huge flake of plaster (石膏) fell out of the wall in the church.Sorrowfully, the pastor (牧师) swept away the mess, but he couldn't hide the break. He was so upset. "Christmas is only two days away!" he said.
That afternoon the sad pastor attended a sale,at which a beautiful gold-and-ivory tablecloth got his attention. It seemed from a bygone era (时代). "Who,today, had any use for such a thing?" The pastor came up with an idea and paid six dollars for it.Back at the church, the pastor pinned(钉) the cloth on the wall.It completely hid the break.Happily, the pastor continued to prepare for Christmas.
Just before noon on the day of Christmas Eve,when opening the church, the pastor noticed a woman standing in the cold at the bus stop. "The bus won't be here for 40 minutes!" he called, and he invited her into the church to get warm. The woman said that she had gone for an interview for a job as a teacher, but was turned down because of imperfect English.
When the woman sat down in the church, she noticed the tablecloth. She walked to it and touched it with her fingers. "It is mine!" she said in surprise. She lifted a corner and showed the pastor a name on the cloth. "My husband had the cloth made especially for me years ago!He had my name embroidered on it."
For the next few minutes, the woman explained that she was from Austria and she and her husband left the country because of the war.On their run, they were separated accidentally and never met each other again.Hearing of her experience, the pastor tried to comfort her and urged her to take the cloth with her.But the woman refused.
As Christmas Eve started,it was clear that the cloth was a great success. It had been designed to look its best by candle light. After the service, people told the pastor that the church looked beautiful.

【答案】In the crowd, one gentle-faced,middle-aged man looked at the tablecloth confusedly. "It is strange," he said. "Many years ago,my wife and I owned such a cloth.I bought it for her with her name on it." The pastor suddenly became very excited. He told the man about the woman who had been in the church earlier in the day.The shocked man suddenly grasped the pastor's arm and asked, "Can it be…?Can we see each other again?"
Together the two went to the school that had interviewed the woman. There, they got the address of the woman. In the priest's car, they set off for the city. And as Christmas Day was born, this man and his wife — who had been separated through so many years — were reunited. The woman said to the pastor gratefully, "It's such a miracle!Thank you for inviting me into your church and for your long drive to get us reunited."

I grew up in a poor family with six brothers, three sisters,my father and mother. We had little money and few goods, but plenty of love and attention.I was happy and energetic.I understood that no matter how poor a person was,he could still afford a dream.
My dream was athletics.By the time I was sixteen,I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything moving on the football field. And I was so lucky that my high-school coach was Ollie Jarvis, who not only believed in me,but often told me "Dream is priceless".However, when I was about to get off the ground, one particular incident happened, which almost ruined my long-held dream.
It was the summer holiday in senior two and a friend recommended me for a summer job.I was offered ﹩12.25 per hour.Compared with the average ﹩3.5,that was a big sum.I was so excited, because this meant a chance for money in my pocket, certainly money for a new bike and new clothes, and the start of savings for a house for my mojye.air.The prospect(前景)of the job was inviting, and I wanted to jump at the opportunity.
Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball training to handle the work schedule.I didn't dare to tell my coach,I thought of the advice my mother often gave me when I lacked courage, "If you make your bed,you have to lie in it. "I decided to talk to my coach in person. After all,my dream of buying my mom a house and having money in my pocket was worth facing his disappointment to me.

2.Jenny was the only child in her home. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily.
She couldn't help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother.Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat,but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her.She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, "Hey,girl, you want to have the noodles?
"Oh,yes…,but I don't have money on me…" she replied.
"That's nothing.I'll treat you today," said the man. "Come in."
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive.
As she was eating,Jenny cried silently.
"What is it?" asked the man kindly.
"Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!" said Jenny as she wiped her tears. "Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother, drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me.She is so merciless compared to a stranger!!"
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, "Girl,do you really think so?I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot.But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you?Have you expressed your gratitude to her?"
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock?she remembered Mother's familiar face and weathered hands. "Why did I not think of that?A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me."
On the way home,Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.

3. One day, when I was a first-year student in high school,I saw a kid from my class walking home from school. His name was Kris.It looked like he was carrying all of his books.I thought to myself,"Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd(书呆子)."
I had quite a weekend planned(parties and a football game with my friends),so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.As I was walking,I saw a gang of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him.He looked up,and I saw terrible sadness in his eyes.
My heart went out to him.So I jogged over to him,and as he crawled around looking for his glasses,I saw tears in his eyes.As I handed him his glasses,I said,"They are bad guys! They really should be punished."He looked at me and said,"Hey,thanks!"There was a big smile on his face.It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.
I helped him pick up his books and asked him where he lived. As it turned out,he lived near me,so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to a private school before.I would have never hung out with a private school kid before, but we talked all the way home, and I carried his books.
