1371．Science fiction is more than just Star Wars.Take scary sci-fi novels.These books are not about exciting light saber battles.They show us how our world could go terribly wrong.There is a reason why these books are so popular.Many people look at the future with fear.They feel things are getting worse，and that the future will be terrible.
Ray Braduury's book Fahrenheit 451 is one of the greatest scary sci-fi novels.Braduury wrote it about 60 years ago.Here is the book's plot.In the future，it is against the law to own or read books.When books are found in people's homes，firefighters are called.It is their job to burn the books.
Fahrenheit 45 I is not just about books，though.What Bradbury was really writing about was the effect of mass media.In his day，mass media meant television and movies.Today，it also includes the Internet.Braduury thought mass media was bad for our minds.He feared it would make us lazy.Soon，all we would care about was having fun.Thinking carefully would seem too hard and too boring.As we lost our freedoms，no one would even notice，Braduury believed.People would just think what their rulers told them to think.
In Bradbury's book，only a few brave people noticed what was happening.One was afire man named Mon tag.He began saving books and learned the truth from jye.aim.The novel explains the steps that led to burning books.First，television made people's minds lazy.Then，books started to get shorter.People no longer wanted to think too much.Then，some people complained about ideas in books that made the mun comfortable.Soon，firefighters began destroying all books.Their job was to protect people from ideas that might trouble them.
