41．What are weather balloons（气球）？
    Weather balloons are one of the useful ways to study weather.They are made of latex（乳胶） or a kind of rubber.They are full of hydrogen （氢气） or helium （氦气）.
    Every day，scientists fly about 1，000 weather balloons into the sky from more than 900 places around the world.These balloons go as far as 200 kilometers.They fly as high as 35 km.This is much higher than planes because the planes only fly as high as 7 to 12 kilometers.
    How do weather balloons work？
    A weather balloon carries a radiosonde （无线电探空仪） and a parachute（降落伞）.The radiosonde can measure（测量） things like temperature，humidity （湿度） and wind in the air.It can stand（忍受） temperatures as cold as 95 degrees（度） below zero.It is powered（供电） by a small battery（电池）.The balloons then get data（数据） to help scientists make weather forecasts （预报）.It sends data back to the ground every one to two seconds（秒）.The balloon flies for about two hours.As it goes up，it gets thinner and thinner.Pop!It bursts（爆裂）!With the help of the parachute，the radiosonde falls slowly to the ground.

    There are instructions（指示） inside each radiosonde.They tell you how to give it back to a weather station.
