19．Zachary My wife，children and I moved from our rural home in Virginia so that I could be retrained for a new career.It meant that we must leave our best friend behind，Zachary，a six- year-old black dog.This was for his good because if he continued to stay with us，he would be chained up in Birmingham while we were away from home every day.We all agreed that he should remain free and explore the countryside.We found friends of friends，far across the county，over a mountain，to help raise him.They would be glad to give him a new home.He trembled（颤抖）beside me as I drove him there.And I left him tearfully，watching him standing at his new house's door，disappearing in the distance of the rear view mirror （后视镜）as I drove away from him forever.
A year later，in our new home，we got a call from the people who bought our farmhouse and my wife took the phone.She was told that there was a strange black dog appearing there several days ago.The dog was right thin and his paws didn't look so good.He just seemed sort of lost.Our former neighbors down the road recognized that he was our old dog.
