19．Eve stared at the quietly ticking clock and sighed， "Oh dear，another day spent watching television." She picked up the phone and called Lucy's number.No answer. "No doubt she'll be busy studying，" she thought.
Eve had to admit that since her daughter had left home and started a new life at Cambridge University，she was feeling a little bit lost.All her good intentions of decorating the house did not seem quite so appealing any more，even though she had bought the paint and made an extremely attractive mood board.Bright colours to brighten her life was the intention.
"It could all look so amazing.If only I could stop watching old films!" she mused （沉思着说）.The phone rang." Hi Mum，I'm just in the middle of an equation，what are you up to？" Eve did not dare admit the truth to her daughter. "Oh，I'm just getting started with the decorating，there's paint everywhere!" she lied.
To be truthful，Eve wasn't that interested in home decorating.Her husband had been the one interested in interior （内部的） design.That was until he became more interested in the interior designer.But that was all in the past，and Eve had slowly been getting accustomed to her single life.She had never lived alone before and sometimes the house seemed so big and empty.She had longed for a room of her own，but not necessarily a house!She didn't even feel like making her cakes with no one to try them.And she had neglected her reading and missed the last meeting of her book group.
Eve's thoughts were stopped in their tracks by the cheery voice of her daughter over the phone. "Why not come visit me tomorrow？I have no lectures -I just need to return a book to the library."
