2.I was 16 years old the day I skipped school for the first time.It was easily done:Both my parents left for work before my school bus arrived,so when it showed up at my house on that cold winter morning,I simply did not get on.The perfect crime!
And what did I do with myself on that glorious stolen day, with no adult in charge and no limits on my activities?Did I get high?Hit the mall for shopping?
Nope.I built a warm free in the wood stove, prepared a bowl of popcorn, grabbed a blanket, and read.I was tilled and transported by a book-it was Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises - and I just needed to be alone with it for a little while.I ached to know what would happen to Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley and Robert Cohn.I couldn't bear the thought of sitting in a classroom taking another biology exam when I could be traveling through Spain in the 1920s with a bunch of expatriates(异乡客).
I spent that day lost in words.Time fell away,as the room around me turned to mist and my role-as a daughter, sister, teenager, and student -in the world no longer had any meaning.I had accidentally come across the key to perfect happiness:I had become completely absorbed in something I loved.
Looking back on it now,I can see that some subtle things were happening to my mind and to my life while I was in that state of absorption,Hemingway's language was quietly braiding itself into my imagination.I was downloading information about how to create simple and elegant sentences,a good and solid plot.In other words,I was learning how to write.Without realizing it ,I was on the trail of my own fate.Writing now absorbs no the way reading once did and happiness is their generous side effect.

D.Because she missed the school bus.
(2)What did the author think is the source of true joy?
A.Reading by the fire.
B.Travelling in Spain.
C.Freeing herself from the roles.
D.Being lost in one's passion.
(3)Which word can best replace the underlined phrase "braiding itself into" in the last paragraph?
A.Entering.
B.Recovering.
C.Weakening.
D.Blocking.
(4)What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.I was aware of the subtle things back then.
B.I simply learnt how to write on the internet.
C.Hemingway's style influenced me a lot.
D.Becoming a writer was my childhood dream.组卷:13引用:1难度:0.5 -
3.It is an uncomfortable fact that civilized society is almost completely dependent upon fossil fuels in nearly every aspect.Whether you believe there are hundreds of years or just a few decades left of this resource, the fact remains that it is a limited resource. At some point, fossil fuels are going to either be gone or become too expensive to realistically use. That is,when fossil fuels become too expensive to use, people will just start using something else.Though this may work well in theory, actually shifting from fossil fuels is not the same as shifting from one brand of shampoo to another.
This is entirely due to the fact that humans rely so much on the infrastructure they have developed, which is entirely dependent upon this resource, accounting for 85% of the United States' energy use.If the world were entirely dependent upon solar energy, that would be fine because sunlight is a continuing resource. However,at the current state of things, humans are in a dangerous position owing to its complete dependence upon one single limited input.
Fossil fuels are also responsible for a significant amount of land, water, and air pollution beyond their carbon dioxide production. For example, coal mining brings solid wastes to the surface that would normally remain underground and the areas around a mine can remain barren for generations due to the lack of proper topsoil. The burning of coal for energy also produces many different types of particulate matter that pollutes the air.Compared with fossil fuels, renewable energy is far more environmentally friendly.
There exists an argument that renewable energy options are not as efficient as fossil fuels because the deployment of renewable energy equipment like the wind turbine costs a lot of money. However, when factors such us pollution and climate change are considered, renewable energy is actually far more efficient than fossil fuels. And fossil fuels will be surely replaced by renewable energy whether it is your generation or your grandchildren's.
(1)According to paragraph 1,we know fossil fuels
A.are a symbol of civilized society
B.are heavily depended on by humans
C.are becoming more and more expensive
D.can be replaced by other resources soon
(2)What does "This" in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.That it is hard to stop using fossil fuels.
B.That it is necessary to use solar energy.
C.That people have overconsumed fossil fuels.
D.That people have developed so many infrastructures.
(3)What is the purpose of paragraph 3?
A.To show the relationship between greenhouse gases and fossil fuels.
B.To introduce how carbon dioxide affects the environment.
C.To present negative consequences brought by fossil fuels.
D.To explain why fossil fuels should be used.
(4)What is the text mainly about?
A.Renewable energy equipment is economically-beneficial.
B.It is an unstoppable trend to use renewable energy.
C.It is very urgent for people to shift to renewable energy.
D.Renewable energy produces less energy than fossil fuels.组卷:13引用:1难度:0.7

On a steamy morning in July,Clay and Acaimic Chastain arrived at the base of Mount Liamuiga on the Caribbean island of St.Kitts, ready to spend a day of their honeymoon climbing Mount Liamuiga. The highest point on St.Kitts,Liamuiga is also a dormant (休眠的) volcano that starts in the clouds and plunges down to meet the sea.
They couldn't find a visitor center or hire a guide,so they set off on their own. They reached the peak around noon and ate their sandwiches looking out over the ocean and surrounding islands.
That's when Clay saw it:a small trail that led into the volcano's crater (坑),a bowl of green with cloud forest giving way to green grass.A series of screw eyes (螺丝孔) had been drilled into the rocks, with ropes that led down.Clay wanted to go down and take some pictures.Acaimie followed him a little way,but she was very cautious and quite scared of heights;so Clay went on alone.
A few minutes later, she heard a crash - a noise that sounded like a large branch snapping, followed by the sound of something big rolling downhill."Clay?" she called.Silence.
Uneasy, she waited a minute and shouted again-still nothing. And then, from somewhere much further down, she heard a weak cry for help. This time she was certain:It was Clay calling for help from deep within the crater.
As she looked over the lip of the volcano, she tried to stop some of her worst worries. Her phone wasn't getting a signal, and her cries for help were met with only silence."Clay!" she shouted as loud as she could."Clay, are you OK?"
Acaimie grasped the rope and began climbing down the tail. When the path became too steep, she slid on her butt, her legs and arms getting bruised and scraped in the process. Then, just of the trail, she saw a flash of red.It was Clay's scarf. And next to it was his cell phone.
She grabbed both and continued down, screaming for Clay all the way.
"Help," he said in that strange voice.
"I'm coming!Stay where you are." she said.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
