19．Mother had just taken her temperature—and it's over 38℃.She'd got the illness that's going around.
It's right after lunch.The older children were at school，and the baby was sleeping.There's no reason why Mother could not go to bed.But she had a few things to do first.Mix the meat loaf for dinner.Leave a note for the cleaners.Find someone to serve coffee for her at the meeting tonight.Put in the next load of washing.Carry out the garbage.
At last，she sank into bed.Ah-h-h-h-!Her aching legs felt comfortable from the cool sheets.Her burning eyes closed.She felt asleep fast!
Then，suddenly the front door banged open as the children burst home from school. "Mum!Mum!Where are you？" Mother tried to answer but their cries drowned out her weak calls.Soon they found her—in bed.
"Didn't you even get up yet？" cried the younger girl.
"How am I going to get to Bill's？" asked the little boy.
"What about dinner？We've got to eat，" said the older girl.
Mother understood.She knew that the children were not used to a mother in bed. "I'm sick，" she said. "I can't do anything.I'll just have to leave it all to you.She sighed. "Cook the potatoes ...take care of the baby ...set the table."
The children ignored her words and dashed off like soldiers going into battle.For a time Mother was left to the quiet of her room and the ache in her head.
Then Father came home.He came into the bedroom，dropped heavily on the side of the bed and reached for her hand. "What's wrong with you，Darling？" Father asked.He looked tired.Mother started worrying about him. "It's nothing—just this illness that's going around，" she said. "I can get up and do dinner and..."
Father shook his head. "You stay right here.Don't worry about anything.The kids and I will take over."
