• 19．Lola and her family have been homeless since she was 3 years old.Over the years，they have moved more than 15 times to different shelters（收容所） around New York City.
      Her family often had to move very far.As a result，Lola had to travel more than two hours each way to get to and from school.At school，Lola hid her homelessness from teachers and other students.She was embarrassed，and she didn't want to be treated differently than other kids.
      In 6th grade，Lola discovered a way to deal with some of her stress.She began studying dance at her middle school，and she loved it.
      "It was a way for me to express myself，instead of just holding everything in，"she explains.
      Dancing became an even more important part of Lola's life in high school.She went to a school for the arts.In 10th grade，she joined a dance company for teens.
      But things were not going well for Lola at school.She did poorly on her schoolwork.One of the main reasons was that she was often late or absent.As the second-oldest of six kids，Lola often had to take care of her younger sisters and brothers.She helped them get ready in the morning and took them to school.Her sisters and brothers would be on time but Lola would be late.
      That changed the summer after 11th grade.Lola decided to become successful，no matter what.Lola made up （弥补） the work that she had missed，and she graduated from high school.No one in Lola's family had gone to college before.But Lola went to the State University of New York at Pots-dam.
      Leaving family isn't easy，but Lola is excited about her future.She wants to be a doctor for kids and to teach dance to children who have disabilities.
