30．As William Shakespeare （莎士比亚） is to English literature（文学），so is the poet Du Fu to the Chinese literature.Recently a new BBC documentary，Du Fu，China's Greatest Poet，has been shown in Britajye.ai.In order to introduce the beauty of traditional Chinese literature to more people，the documentary invited the famous British actor Ian Mckellen to read 15 of Du's poems translated into English.
The one-hour film shows the poet's life experiences.Born in 712，Du Fu lived under the time of the Tang Emperor Xuanzong （713 —756）.However，because of the An Lushan Rebellion （安史之乱） of 755，he had to take his family on the road.Through difficulties，Du Fu never stopped writing and still cared about common people.
Although he never held a high position in the government，Du kept on writing and about 1，500 poems have been kept.For example，in the poem My Cottage Unroofed By Autumn Gales （《茅屋为秋风所破歌》），he wrote that "Could I get mansions covering ten thousand miles？I'd house all scholars poor and make them beam with smiles."
"Chinese people really value the recording of history and Du was better than anyone at reflecting history in his poetry，" Zeng Xiangbo，a professor of ancient Chinese literature said.
That's why he is thought to be a Poet Sage （诗圣） by people.A difficult life and his spirit helped him create so many wonderful pieces.Du is a symbol of culture in ancient China without doubt，and his amazing works and spirits have inspired people not just in China.As the documentary noted，his work is an inspiration to the people all around the world.
