      Dana，14，was an ordinary girl．She was at Parish Hill Middle School．It was a pretty average day for her．At least that was what she thought when she was walking to school as usual on foot，with some school books in her hand．
      Dana got to the corner of Main and North streets，just in time to miss the traffic light．She sighed， "I could have walked a little bit faster!" she thought．She raised her wrist to read her watch：it was 8：24．Her first class began at 9 a．m．She had enough time to go to school．So Dana stood at the corner，waiting for the traffic light patiently．
      When she was waiting，she half noticed the people who were also waiting for the light with her．There was a woman carrying a bag from Walmart，and a man in a business suit who looked a little like her father，and a mother with a half dozen packages in one hand，trying to control her little kid with the other．The kid was two or maybe three．Dana doesn't have that much experience with little kids，so it's hard for her to tell how old they are，or if they're boys or girls．This one was just a wriggling（扭来扭去的） kid in overalls and a blue shirt．
      Main Street was a busy street，let alone the intersection of it and North Street．Vehicles from four directions came running．Some roared passing the intersection，while some were waiting at the red light．Everything was going as usual．
      But suddenly the kid managed to wriggle away from its mother．And before she even had a chance to notice it，the kid had run directly into the middle of Main and North streets．Cars were running and no driver noticed the kid．Just at that moment，a big blue car came right at the kid at full speed．
