1.Traveling without a map in different countries,I find out about different ways of directions every time I ask "How can I get to the post office?"
Foreign tourists are often puzzled in Japan because most streets there don't have name signs. In Japan, people use landmarks(地标)in their directions instead of street names. For example, the Japanese will say to travelers, "Go straight down to the corner.Turn left at the big hotel and go past a fruit market. The post office is across from the bus stop."
People in Los Angeles, the US,have no idea of distance on the map:they measure distance by time, not miles. "How far away is the post office?" you ask. "Oh," they answer, "it's about five minutes from here." You don't understand completely,"Yes,but how many miles away is it,please?" To this question you won't get an answer, because most probably they don't know it themselves.
People in Greece sometimes do not even try to give directions because tourists seldom understand the Greek language.Instead,a Greek will often say, "Follow me." Then he'll lead you through the streets of the city to the post office.
Sometimes a person doesn't know the answer to your question. What happens in the situation?A New Yorker might say, "Sorry,I have no idea." But in Yucatan,Mexico,no one answers "I don't know." People there believe that "I don't" is impolite. They usually give an answer, but often a wrong one.So a tourist can get lost very easily in Yucatan! However, one thing will help you everywhere in the world. It's body language.

The officials say thirteen percent of the students at the school are from poor families. Many students have arrived in the United States from other countries recently.Students in the school's program for learning English speak twenty-three languages.
The idea for a Cyber Cafe at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School began three years ago.At that time officials were planning to restore the school building.Parents interested in technology proposed(建议)to build a Cyber Cafe.
Over two years, money for a Cyber Cafe and other new computers was collected. It received more than one hundred and seventy thousand dollars. The Cafe now has sixteen computers,a printer and a scanner(扫描仪).School official Ann Hengerer says students use the Internet to complete research. They also write homework and required papers on the computer. In addition, they can send and receive electronic mails. That is especially helpful for many students who have family members in other nations.

3.The numbers might sound small, but they are the leading edge of a dangerous trend. When vaccination(疫苗)rates are very high,as they still are in the nation as a whole, everyone is protected. This is called "herd immunity"(群体免疫),which protects the people who get hurt easily, including those who can't be vaccinated for medical reasons, babies too young to get vaccinated and people on whom the vaccine doesn't work.
But herd immunity works only when nearly the whole herd joins in.When some refuse vaccination and seek a free ride, immunity breaks down and everyone is in even bigger danger.
That's exactly what is happening in small neighborhoods around the country from Orange County,California, where 22 measles cases were reported this month,to Brooklyn,N.Y.,where a 17-year-old caused an outbreak last year.
The resistance to vaccine has continued for decades, and it is driven by a real but very small risk. Those who refuse to take that risk selfishly make others suffer.
Now,several states are moving to tighten laws by adding new regulations for opting out.But no one does enough to limit exemptions(豁免).
Parents ought to be able to opt out only for limited medical or religious reasons. But personal opinions? Not good enough.Everyone enjoys the life-saving benefits vaccines provide, but they'll exist only as long as everyone shares in the risks.

A.a small number of measles cases can start a dangerous trend
