  • 1.My violin is like a soul mate that whispers words of wisdom to me.Together,we've gone through both tears and happiness.
About 12 years ago,I made acquaintance with it following an order from my mum. Many hours of boredom were spent practicing it.And to make things worse, the disappointment in my teacher's eyes as I played the wrong notes was like an invisible hammer, striking on my heart. One day,I finally decided:I hate it!
By chance, things changed when I was seven.I was at home lying on the sofa, wondering how those famous violinists dealt with this terrible dilemma.I searched online for the Felix Mendelssohn:Violin Concerto in E minor,a well-known violin work by German composer Felix Mendelssohn, and listened to it.
A beautiful and mysterious sound came from the violin as the bow moved across jye.ai.It was like the music slid over the flowers, rose up,and started to fill the air.The violin's voice woke up the sun, made the trees green, and freshened the air.As the music changed, the sky turned back to gray.A gloomy shade covered the grass as all the sunshine disappeared.I could hear children crying and men shouting. It was like an invisible claw had grabbed my heart tightly, making it unable to beat.
That glorious day set off my passion and interest in violin—I grabbed mine and never let it go.Before the memories faded,I stared at my instrument.Without hesitating,I picked it up,rosined(用松香擦) the bow,and began to play.Peace filled my heart.
My violin has been by my side for 12 years. When I feel happy,an energetic tune makes it even better;when I'm deep in sorrow,a peaceful tune washes it away;when I'm walking on air, feeling especially pleased with my achievements, solemn(庄严的) tunes calm me down.Gradually,it has become a part of my life.
       My violin,shall I compare you to a summer's day?

  • 2.I work at a grocery store in Montreal's Plateau neighbourhood, which gets a lot of regulars. On March 12,the Quebec government announced to close all public places to stop the spread of the pandemic (流行病) of COVID-19.
The next day the store was the busiest I've ever seen. The six cash registers had to be kept open from 10 a.m.jye.ai close. It was nuts. I didn't have time to eat lunch, and whenever one of us on cash had to use the bathroom,we9 d have to bring in a coworker off the floor to cover for us.

A lot of my coworkers have left to avoid a public-facing job during the pandemic.Grocery store workers across Canada are putting their health at risk every time they come in to work, but a lot of us are still making close to minimum wage.I realized that I feel more exhausted than normal even though I'm working the same hours.
There still have been some moments of kindness in the midst of the chaos.I've overheard people talking on the phone who sounded as though they were organizing grocery deliveries for those stuck at home. And this past weekend a very nice lady thanked us for continuing to work.I know everyone is worried, but it's unless having the same scary conversations day after day.Instead, tell us a funny anecdote,or about something nice. We'll appreciate the distraction, and you'll make our day just a bit brighter.

  • 3.In many ways,Providence Mount St.Vincent in Seattle is a typical senior living communjye.aiy.It is home to about 400 elderly people and provides them with different types of assistance. However,it is also the Inter-generational Learning Center---a preschool where children and seniors have the chance to bond.
Established in 1991,the ILC's purpose is to allow kids to learn about acceptance while also being nurtured. It also aims to help seniors develop a greater sense of self-worth and strengthen social interactions.Babies to prekindergarten-aged children are placed into six different classes at the ILC.The kids attend art and music classes,as well as story time and exercise time with the seniors.Marie Hoover,ILC director, said that interacting with the seniors has proven beneficial for the young ones, making them more open-minded.
"For the ILC children, interacting with the residents is simply part of their day-to-day life here and the way aging is 'normalized',which may be the most important benefit they receive," Hoover said. "I've had parents call me years after their children have graduated from our program to let me know about some incidents when their child was the first to warmly greet someone who happened to be in a wheelchair."
As for the seniors, they're delighted by the companionship the children provide. The children bring so much energy and joy to our residents. Many of residents are widows or widowers and can become lonely.Their adult children may still be working,so they may not get to see them as often as they would like.Having the children stay with the old makes our residents feel they are still part of a community. The young and the old connect and learn from one another at this unique facility.
