"Is this all I got？" asked my daughter，Allison. "I asked for a new cell phone and a laptop!"
"Where are the rest of the presents？" asked my son，Blake."I wanted a set of golf clubs and a skateboard!"
Money had been tight，and as a single parent，I was doing the best I could.My children received almost everything on their wish lists when their father was alive，but things were different now.Blake was now thirteen years old and Allison twelve.I knew we had somewhat spoiled（宠坏） them.My feelings were hurt，but I didn't want to show it.I was also very disappointed in their reactions to their presents.
The months went by quickly.I was planning our next Christmas celebration in my head a little every day，for I was determined to teach them a lesson.
I contacted agencies to find a family that desperately needed help.They were a low-income family，and my children needed to know they existed and what they had to go through.
That Christmas we did all the usual traditions，such as putting up a tree.But as Christmas Eve drew closer，there were still no presents under the tree.
I said that we would be giving gifts to a family that truly needed them.They needed to see what it was like to need essentials such as clothing and food.I went on to explain my disappointment in their previous actions and words.
We went shopping that weekend and bought gifts for all the children.We purchased gloves，hats，socks，shoes and coats for them.Then，we picked out age appropriate toys.We bought three toys for each child.Next，we needed coats，hats，gloves，socks and shoes for the adults.We purchased everything they would need for a nice Christmas dinner and then picked out some things to help them get through the winter.
It was the day before Christmas Eve，and the day we would deliver the food and gifts.After having breakfast，we set off.
