  • 2.Fake(假的) or artificial(人造的) nature is everywhere in the world. When people can't get their hands on real nature, they seem quite happy to imitate(模仿) it in clever ways.
Fake grass is used in many places, especially sports grounds. It is made of plastic and it looks very like natural grass.
In the summer, some cities with no natural beaches truck in sand to create one. Some are even made indoors.
In the winter, water can be frozen for ice-skating,creating artificial skating rinks(溜冰场).
There are fake snakes and models of owls(猫头鹰) to scare away pests.
These are just some of the many ways people have faked nature.
In Dubai, temperatures often top 38°C,not a place most people would go to ski. However, here there are fake,snow-covered ski slopes(斜坡)-indoors.
In Germany there is a theme park and tropical(热带的) island.Inside,it is summer all the time. The temperature is controlled to copy the weather in the tropics. Here visitors can walk in through a rainforest among the 50000 plants as well as parrots and flamingos(火烈鸟).Visitors can even walk through a village from Thailand.
There are many reasons why people fake nature.Sometimes we fake nature to help us learn more about the world around us.Sometimes it's just for fun.______ some people think that the money spent on faking nature should be spent on real environments and living things.

  • 3.Some people say that"a picture is worth a thousand words",but many people would question the common saying according to the books and the movies based on them. But great books often end up being turned into bad movies.
Good movies need good stories. If so,why has one of the earliest and greatest works in Western storytelling,Homer's The Odyssey, never had an equally(同等地) great movie based on it?Movies need strong characters. So why have the movies based on The Great Gasby never been praised as "great"?Movies of course need great images(形象),so why has Alice in Wonderland only resulted in movies best described as "interesting"?
One of the key reasons behind this is that while a book usually takes a few days to read,a movie typically lasts under two hours. This means that great books can lose plot details(情节细节) and characters when they move to the big screen. This is something that even the highly successful Harry Potter movies can't avoid, with fans of the books disappointed not to see some of their favorite characters in the movies.
There are a thousand Hamlets(哈姆雷特) in a thousand people's eyes.Besides, books and movies are two different forms of media(媒体) and therefore have different rules. With this in mind, perhaps we should judge(评判)a movie in itself, and not against its book.Interestingly, people have in recent years turned to TV plays such as Sherlock or Mad men, which can have many characters and gradual plot development.Perhaps, one day, readers will find themselves interested in their screens by episodes(剧集) of The Great Gatsby.

(1)Great books often end up being turned into bad movies because
    .
A.the movies don't have good stories
B.the movies lose some good characters.
C.the movies don't have great images
D.the movies lose some details from books
(2)Which of the following is True?

A.Homer wrote a book named The Odyssey.
B.The movie,The Great Gasby is better than the book.
C.People like the movies,Harry Potter more than books.
D.Sherlock is a good movie that people like better.
(3)What does the underlined sentence " There are a thousand Hamlets(哈姆雷特) in a thousand people's eyes"in the last paragraph mean?

    A.Different countries have different cultures.
B.Different people like different books and movies.
C.People have different ideas about books and movies.
D.People from all over the world like Hamlet very much.
(4)What does this passage mainly talk about?

A.How good books are turned into good movies.
B.Bad movies come from bad books.
C.Bad movies are about bad stories.
D.Why good books may be bad movies.

  • 9.阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
A new study suggests that ancient periods of cold and dry climate(气候) led to Neanderthal(尼安德特人) disappearance.Their disappearance was followed by an appearance of our species(物种):Homo sapiens(智人 modern human beings).
Neanderthals are a species of early humans that once lived in Europe and Asia, which died out about 40000 years ago.Homo sapiens arrived in Europe a few thousand years later.
Scientist Michael and his research team reported their findings.Their study focused.jye.ai around two cold and dry periods. One began about 44000 years ago and lasted about 600 years. The timing of those events matches the periods when Neanderthals disappear.During the two events, signs of Homo sapiens appear in central and Eastern Europe and in France.
The changes in climate would have turned forests into grassland filled with small plants.Homo saplens may have been better adapted(适应) to that new environment than the Neanderthals were.So they may be able to move in after the Neanderthals disappeared, the researchers wrote.
Katerina,a Neanderthal expert said it is helpful to have the new climate information from southeastern Europe, which is an area that many researchers think Homo sapiens used to spread through the continent(大洲).But she said it is unclear whether Neanderthals disappeared and Homo saplens appeared at the times the researchers reported.Rick Potts of the Smithsonian Institution called the study "a new look" at how one species took the other's place."As has been said before, our species were not cleverer than the Neanderthals," Potts wrote."We simply out-survived(幸存) them."

(1)Why did Neanderthals disappear according to the new study?

(2)When did Neanderthals disappear according to the writer?

(3)What may the new environment in Paragraph 4 be like?

    (4)What do the underlined words"our species"in Paragraph 5 refer to(指代)?

(5)What does the passage mainly talk about?
