6.Kids and science seem to be made for each other!
The basic science is a combination of thought and experiment called the scientific method. It's where you start with an idea, create a way to prove or disprove your idea, and show what you learned based on facts.Learning to follow the process above helps you think logically and carefully. These important thinking skills can be used in many areas of study. To give a child practice with these thinking skills is like giving vitamins (维生素)to a developing mind.
One of the greatest things we can teach our children is to love learning.Learning science is a great way to do so.Children are easy to be interested in science.Because much of science is hands-on (实践),it attracts most children.Nothing but science makes a child sit up while watching a scientific experiment.
Science opens doors to many subjects at school.Building love for science can be helpful in other areas of study For example, one cannot love science for very long without becoming good at its language-math!So science encourages children to study math.An interest in science is an interest in how things were once understood, compared to how they are understood now. Thus studying science lends itself easily to studying history. And after you do an experiment, you need to write a lab report. Therefore, writing becomes an important part of science.
Science is the basic thing for much of our life. The science of farming shows how our food is produced;medical science keeps us healthy;even our beds these days are designed according to scientific facts. We almost eat, sleep and breathe with the help of science! When we prepare the next generation of creators and policy makers,it is important to make sure they are not only suitable for their positions but also good at science.

7.Sleep has become a national discussion, with lots of apps and professors telling us we need eight hours a night. But don't be anxious if you haven't.
While most scientists agree that eight hours' sleep a night is the best choice,it is not a "must".One possible explanation is the 8-hour day movement, which started in Australia,Britain and America in 1850,and it was based on the idea that the working man needed 8 hours of work,8 hours of relaxation and 8 hours of sleep. However,it seems that the amount of sleep you need depends on your age.For example, babies need much more than adults and the elder need less sleep.
In a study by Sleep Research Centre, the effects of sleep were monitored. The first group slept for six and a half hours and the second group slept for eight hours per night.Though some findings were predictable (可预测的),such as anger and lower concentration in the group who slept less, there were some more surprising findings. The genes (基因) of people who had less sleep were affected.Genes of the immune system and stress response became more active. The team also noticed increases in the activity of genes related to risk of cancer.
Therefore,we are not sure whether 8-hour sleep a night fits for everyone, because there are factors like age to take into consideration, but one thing is true-there is a certain amount we do actually need. 'It's easy to work out how many hours you need, " says a sleep expert Stanley. "What matters is how you feel at 11 am.If you feel OK,then you're getting enough sleep. So ignore the 8-hour-rule. "
(1)What can we learn from Paragraph 1 and 2?
A.Sleeping has always been a topic people care about.
B.It is necessary for us to get 8 hours' sleep every day.
C.Working men slept more than 8 hours per day in 1850.
D.Sleeping less than 8 hours per night does harm to our body.
(2)What is one of the factors in considering how much sleep you need?
A.Age.
B.Nationality.
C.Genes.
D.Work.
(3)What can be inferred from Paragraph 3?
A.Cancer is caused because of not enough sleep.
B.Sleeping less makes particular genes more active.
C.People in the second group became more absent-minded.
D.8-hour sleep per day leads to anger and lower concentration.
(4)What is the author's purpose in writing this passage?
A.To tell us the result of lack of sleep.
B.To introduce the importance of enough sleep.
C.To show us how to work out the amount of sleep we need.
D.To explain we might not need exact 8 hours of sleep everyday.组卷:7引用:3难度:0.5

Charles Rose lived in the country with his father,Mr.Rose, who taught him to read and to write.Mr.Rose told his son when his morning lessons were over,he might relax himself for an hour as he pleased.
There was a river near by.On its bank stood the hut of a poor fisherman, who lived by selling fish. His careful wife kept her wheel going early and late. They both worked very hard to make a living. But they were greatly troubled for fear that their only son will never learn to read or write. They could not teach him themselves, and they were too poor to send him to school.
Charles paid a visit to the hut of this fisherman one day and found the little boy, whose name was Joe,sitting by the table,on which he was making marks with a piece of chalk.Charles asked him whether he was drawing pictures.Little Joe said he was trying to write but he knew only two words, which he saw from a sign.Joe wished to learn and write so that he could be the happiest boy in the world.Charles promised to-fulfill his dream by teaching him, even though he is still a boy too.Charles also said if Joe tried his best,he would know how to read and write soon. Both Joe and his mother thanked Charles and told him it was what they wished above all things.
