2. On James Owen's 70th birthday,he saw a video of himself bending the top of his body forward and raising his shoulders and back and walking slowly up to the platform where he was giving a talk. "I looked like an old man,"says Owen, who built a successful career on Wall Street.Even worse,he felt like an old man.He was about 25 pounds overweight and had trouble with his back, knees and shoulders.
Later, instead of giving in to age,Owen decided to set an ambitious five-year goal.He wanted to be pain-free,and he decided the way to get there was through exercise-even though at the time he couldn't do a single push-up.Owen began walking though he was out of breath after five minutes. But that didn't discourage him.He kept at the walks every day, along with some stretching.Once he had those basics down,he started lifting weights and hired a personal trainer to teach him and design a routine he could follow on his own.The last piece was finding other activities he enjoyed, which turned out to be cycling and swimming.
In less than five years,Owen was able to do three sets of 50 push-ups each and walk for miles each day.And yes,he was free of aches and pains"Aging is only about 25% genes, and the rest is lifestyle,"he says."As long as you're still mobile,it's never too late to become more healthy."
Owen used his experience to write a book called Just Move!A New Approach to Fitness After 50,in which he details how older adults can safely get off the couch and add more movement to their lives. He says,"Think of it as movement not exercise.Get started even if you walk just three blocks, which was all I could manage at first."He adds,"The key is slow and steady progress. Not every investment pays off,but it is the best investment I've ever made in my life."

3.Ever since the success of Apollo 11,when lunar travel was finally publicly acknowledged to be safe for humans, people have been waiting for the day when space would be opened up on a large scale to those who are not astronauts. It has finally become a reality,at least for people who have the means. The space flights are not cheap - each flight into outer space costs about U.S.﹩ 20 million.
But space travel agencies now have a clever plan to offer suborbital (亚轨道的) flights, which cost about U.S.﹩100 000.A lunar mission is also made available by space tourism agency,Space Adventures, where tourists, accompanied by one professional astronaut, would be able to reach within 100km of the Moon's surface, enabling them to see the bright far-side of the moon and witness Earth rising above the surface of the moon.
Further extending the idea of space tourism, plans are underway to open a resort in space.
In Galactic Suite Space Resort,a space resort started by a Spanish entrepreneur, guests are promised a remarkable experience with an orbital stay onboard with first-class resort facilities;they can enjoy a weightless spa as they watch 15 sunsets in one day;and tourists would be able to complete a single orbit in 80 minutes -- all this while staying in a bio-inspired space, similar to a tropical paradise island!
Space tourism is,however, not environmentally-friendly.There are suggestions that black carbon emitted by the spacecraft could raise temperatures at the poles, contributing to global warming. An increase in space travel would mean that Man would not only leave his footprint in space but also his waste--space tourism can lead to pollution of the environment of the outer space.
Without a doubt, space tourism opens up new exciting possibilities. With time, the price would become more reasonable.Increasing commercialisation of space would also mean that a structure would be put in place for the disposal of rubbish. However, with no immediate solutions, space tourism would probably prove to be yet another controversial (有争议的) adventure of mankind.

Have you ever had to overcome an extreme challenge in your life?
Throughout my rushed teenage years I have been faced with many extreme challenges that have required extreme focus and hard work to overcome. If it hadn't been for hard work, none of these challenges that I faced would have been conquered.
Two years ago, when I was a freshman in high school,I dealt with an extremely significant injury. It took place in my tennis tournament in January. In the climax of my match,I turned my back to the left and soon after felt a sharp, painful shock run through my spine (脊椎).I knew at that difficult moment I seriously injured my back.I was rushed off the court and my parents made an appointment with an orthopedist (矫形外科医生) for the next day.
I walked into the office extremely nervous and suffering from intense pain.My tennis season for school would start in three months and I absolutely needed to build up the strength.
After about twenty minutes of waiting in the office, which felt like a decade, the doctor walked in to examine my X-rays.With a sorrowful face, the doctor looked into mine and my mother's eyes and said,"There is a 50/50 chance that Lucas will be able to participate in this year's tennis season.Lucas broke his L5 spine in his lower back."My heart dropped and I felt a sadness coming over me.The doctor said that I would be sitting out of physical activity for two and a half to three months.
Those three months were the longest three months of my life.I was so eager to get back to practice for the season.Every day,I would think about how it was going to be when I was fully healthy.I asked myself,"Am I going to be out of shape?Should I even play this year?Probably won't have a successful season."
From that terrible day on,I decided that I was going to work hard to be back in top form and have a successful season.
Paragraph 1:
After I got the "all clear" from my orthopedist,I was going to get to work.
Paragraph 2:
My hard work proved to be very effective.
