1631．The power of money to corrupt people is as astonishing here as it is annoying at how stupid it can also make people.And with this film it is not even money itself that causes problems，more simply the idea of it.
The film stars Gregory Peck，a charming actor in Hollywood.Penniless Henry，played by Gregory，is chosen by two rich British businessmen to keep a million pound bank note.He is told that if he still has the cheque after one month，any job he wishes that the brothers can provide will be his.
Luckily for the brothers，Henry is an honest man so he won't simply run away with the million—he wants a job.So it would seem simple for him to hide the cheque for a month but it soon starts drawing attention from all quarters.Soon he is being offered everything for free from people who assume he is an odd millionaire that will see them taken care of in the end.
Nobody other than Gregory Peck could have played this role.Only Henry could be so poor，yet so honest that his first thought would not be to just run away with the money.It is a vital point because if he did，as I bet any of us would，there would be no movie.And Gregory Peck's image really matches the character of Henry.
It is funny at first to see the effect this cheque has on tailors，hoteliers and socialites，but the joke wears thin all too quickly.There action of these same people when the cheque goes missing and Henry appears to be a liar is even more annoying.However，Peck is a very likeable character and wanting him to succeed makes the film very watchable.
All in all it's a good film，but it's too perfect and not so realistic，and may not stand up to the cynicism（愤世嫉俗）of today's world.
